The season is winding down. The PGA Tour finished up at Disney and Stephen Ames, the winner, wasn’t the happiest man in Mickey’s Kingdom, Nicholas Thompson was ecstatic after going low Sunday moving from 138 on the money list inside the top 125 and retaining his playing privileges for next year. Without that low round Nicholas would have been traveling the Nationwide Tour with a few stops on the PGA.

Sunday night I was napping at LAX waiting for my redeye flight back to Chicago when I got the call from Rubble. Rachel Hetherington’s caddy was going back to Europe and she needed someone for Prattville, AL. It wasn’t a definite job but she was supposed to call the next morning and confirm things. I caught my flight, Wendy picked me up in Chicago early the next morning, and I napped till about noon, when Rachel called to confirm my employment. We chatted awhile and planned to meet Tuesday at noon.

The long drive from Wisconsin was a bit heated; my A/C wasn’t conditioning my air. Luckily it wasn’t the usual hot and humid August. I’d driven through Springfield, MO many times over the years but never spent more than a night so I didn’t really know what to expect.

Ann Arbor, MI to Indianapolis Monday morning and a full day at Crooked Stick for the U.S. Senior Open. Dinner with some old friends that night and then off to Columbus, OH for the Nationwide Tour at the Ohio State course and another long day networking with a lot of guys I didn’t know. I left there Tuesday afternoon, headed back to Crooked Stick and spent another agonizing day looking for a job. The search was fruitless so I headed north with a stop in Flint, MI and a visit with the PGA Tour boys on Thursday. It was a lot of territory to cover networking for a job, but I felt it was necessary.
