Bob Hope Classic Predictions

Your Chicago suburb resident and Sony Open Champion, Mark Wilson, decided to play this week despite his beloved Packers teeing it up against the Bears. The game will be broadcast approximately the same time they’re playing in Palm Springs so you can count Wilson out this week, his concentration will be on the oblong ball or he may miss the cut (purposely?) and have his feet hiked up in front of the screen sipping a cold beverage with a brat or two.

John Daly is Back: Lean & Mean Outside, Big Heart Inside

John Daly is back: Lean & Mean Outside, Big Heart Inside

They wouldn’t let him in the Hawaiian Open pro-am party Tuesday night because nobody recognized him. He’s lost over a hundred pounds and rededicated himself, hopefully John sticks to it. He’s on his last leg, and at 44 years old his competitive years are not many. Watching the Hawaiian Open’s first two rounds made me realize what a draw JD is.

Tiger’s Effect on a Fan

Tiger’s Effect on a Fan

First of all, I’m a golf fan, not just a Tiger fan. I’ve admired the game for a long time, especially the players’ character at the highest level. The PGA Tour doesn’t have an extensive criminal dossier for its members like the NFL or the NBA. The PGA Tour advertises with the high end of society; Rolex, Accenture, Tag Heuer, Cadillac, etc. are all after the upper class dollar, and to have a squeaky clean, racially mixed, photogenic spokesman has filled their advertising needs, not to mention the PGA Tour’s vaults and Tiger’s pockets.

Arnie - in memory of reaching 80

No professional golfer ever wants to reach 80 on the course but I’m sure Arnold is happy he achieved this 80. What a life it has been. Here’s a little piece I posted earlier this year and thought I’d bring it out for his birthday.

“Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated; it satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time rewarding and maddening - and it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind
has ever invented.” -Arnold Palmer

Feherty’s Not Alone On The PGA Tour

If Tiger did do it and blamed it on Stevie it wouldn’t be the first time. If Tiger didn’t do it and Stevie dropped the bomb that wouldn’t be the first time either. Farting in the fairways, or on the practice tee, maybe a tee box, or anywhere inside the ropes is a favorite pastime among players and caddies. It has never been safe to walk behind Steve in the fairway, and I’m surprised those boom mikes haven’t picked up the passing gas more often. The seven-second delay isn’t available and the mike techs are instructed to place that furry extension directly behind the caddies behind, luckily they are only there for the shot and not transfixed throughout the round.
