Corey Pavin, Tim Simpson, Tom Watson with Troops

Over the last few years I’ve been drawn closer to our returning soldiers. I’ve met some amazing people at Wounded Warrior outings, traveling through airports, or sipping a cold one at a local Moose Lodge, VFW, or Elks Club. Those who serve our country are truly heroes and I am in awe of their courage, commitment, loyalty, and dedication despite the decrepit state of our political system.

Hopefully I can share some personal stories and others gleened from the media about all the good our troops are doing for you and me. Bear with me as I gradually add tidbits about our true heroes.

Flying back from the Champions Tour School last weekend I was sitting in the handicap section, the bulkhead, when an older gentleman sat next to me. He was missing his right arm and possibly a leg, I wasn’t sure. Tired and worn out from the long week I was ready to nap but we struck up a brief conversation. He was a northern Minnesota native and we had a bit in common. The more he spoke the more I didn’t need my nap.

Long story short, his name was Jon Hovde, a Vietnam vet who was almost left for dead. I’ve gleaned some information from his web site and he sent me a personalized copy of his book, Left for Dead, A Second Life after Vietnam. Please check it out, I think you’ll be fascinated.

Hi. I’m Jon Hovde. I’m happy you’re here. My purpose as a person, husband, father, grandfather, keynote speaker, author and Vietnam veteran is to “Make a Difference.”

When I made that vow in 1968, I was laying on my deathbed in a hospital in Vietnam. At the time, I wasn’t sure what it would mean. But I now know my life has a purpose and that is what I want to share with others.

For the past several years, I’ve traveled this great country of ours, visiting with people about my experiences. I especially enjoy the opportunity to connect with students, and if you read some of the letters they’ve sent me, I think you’ll agree that my message has a profound impact on them.

I hope I can visit with you and your group in the future. In the meantime, please take a look around my website to learn more about my story and my purpose. If I can answer any questions, please feel free to contact me.
