Looping for a Legend - One More Time

I was supposed to work for Willie Wood at the Nationwide Tour’s event in Chattanooga, Tenn., but he withdrew so he could watch his son’s last golf tournament of the year. Standing on the Black Creek CC practice tee late Wednesday morning unemployed, my chances for a job were waning, and I was hoping to line up something for the next week. My phone rang; I didn’t recognize the number, but for some reason I decided to answer.

“Hello, Mark, this is Tom Watson. Can you work for me next week in Houston? Ox can’t make it.”

Sunday night I was napping at LAX waiting for my redeye flight back to Chicago when I got the call from Rubble. Rachel Hetherington’s caddy was going back to Europe and she needed someone for Prattville, AL. It wasn’t a definite job but she was supposed to call the next morning and confirm things. I caught my flight, Wendy picked me up in Chicago early the next morning, and I napped till about noon, when Rachel called to confirm my employment. We chatted awhile and planned to meet Tuesday at noon.
